Big Money in Dating Scams

The total dollars that scammers are getting are going up.  First, a story out of Ghana where a man posing as a woman was looking “for a Christian man” to marry.  The scammer knit a convoluted series of stories that eventually got over $150,000 from his American victim.  Read the article to get a sense of what twists and turns were invented to keep the victim paying up.

Then, a Jacksonville, FL, lawyer (48) has made lemonade out of lemons with his new book “How Not to get Burned By Internet Dating and Mail-Order Brides: A Guide for the Potential Victim.”  Anthony Penoso shelled out $75,000 in cash and gifts for his Romanian girlfriend, who literally ditched him at the alter and flew on to California with her new/old boyfriend.  Perhaps the fact that the woman was 26 to his 48 ought to have been a bit of a red flag.

The entire account and all the stories we have all read reported by various sources point to outlandish claims of BIG MONEY and sensational fantasies of the good life. We are talking about Jacksonville, Florida for cryin out loud. Personally speaking i would love to see some reciepts because one can’t believe everything you read on the internet. I have read a number of stories from different sources and it is so laughable how much they differ in the amount of pain and suffering and heroism one could endure, while remain strong in the face of the world cruel twists and turns. Reads like a harliquin novel. One thing is accurate, the cavernous age difference and the glowing red flags visible over the horizon by anyone old enough to know better. Lemonade out of Lemons; That is a stretch of monumental optimism. Clearly the publishing giant has struck gold with this best seller LOL!!! Artistic License is a wonderful thing.

A friend of mine in UK appears to have been caught or has he ? He received a couple of e-mails from nice looking ladies purporting to be based in USA and so started corresponding. To cut a long story short, the ladies end up in Nigeria and asked for his full name and address including post code ( in order to send him a post card ) so he gave them these details. They then asked for his mobile number so that they can say hello quickly - he gave this and received a quick call from a lady ( the line was very unclear so that virtually nothing could be heard ). No money has been requested as yet but what are the consequences of giving out the info he has. Does he need to close down bank / credit card accounts, inform police etc ?

As a lawyer, he should have known better. These people should be able to judge ones character.

No mistery behind lawyers bloodsuckers! All are the same.

Hahahahaha!! Bloodsuckers, it’s been a long time I heard that word refering to a lawyer!!
